The co-host of a paranormal podcast is disturbed by ten mysterious sound files even as her elderly mother is nearing death in her bedroom upstairs – out in UK and Ireland cinemas on Friday, April 10th

A two person paranormal podcast comprises Evy Babic (Nina Kiri) and Justin (voice: Adam DiMarco) in a good cop / bad cop routine. Adam’s good cop is always willing to believe – or at least hoping – that the incident or phenomena underlying the latest episode is real, however strange or unlikely it might be. Evy’s bad cop always assumes the phenomena are fake or a hoax, until or unless she has incontrovertible evidence that suggests otherwise.

We never see Justin since the movie focuses on Evy living in her house and Justin only appears (on the soundtrack) as her co-host when they go live on air or in conversation with her on the phone outside of that recording / broadcasting process. You might think that focusing on the subject of the paranormal would drive someone off the deep end, but for Evy, doing the podcast with Justin is the one thing that keeps her sane.… Read the rest

His baby daughter is sick, and medical treatment is expensive. His wife is working as many shifts as she can at a hostess club (we never see it – it’s described in dialogue) in an attempt to bring in some money. But it’s not enough. Ben Richards (Glen Powell) needs to find more money to pay the bills and keep his family alive. While he is good at what he does, he has a tendency to speak up when things aren’t as they should be, and this gets him into trouble. As in, he has been blacklisted by previous employers of whom he’s fallen foul. Night. An exotic dancer, bent over backwards so both hands and feet touch the floor. Writhing.

A young woman, watching this on her smartphone on the bus at night. She reaches her stop, gets off and starts walking. A gang of white masked, female vigilantes on the prowl, suddenly, behind her. She walks faster, they catch her, surround her, slut-shame her, call her a homewrecker, threaten her into “serving the Lord”. Afterwards, the female vigilantes walk off in a line across the road. On the wall, posters depicting a fist and a snake.

To better herself, another young woman Clarissa (Bruna G.) is taken our of an ordinary school and sent by her aunt to an up-market, fundamentalist, evangelical Christian church school where she’s quite nervous about fitting in: but Clarissa needn’t worry – she’s soon befriended by Mariana aka Mari (Mariana Oliveira) who takes the newcomer under her wing.… Read the rest
