A goat sets out to prove that despite being small he can play professional roarball just as well as the big guys who populate the sport – animated feature is out in UK cinemas on Friday, February 13th

In a world where ‘smalls’ and ‘bigs’ live side by side, Will Harris (voice: Caleb McLoughlin) is a small goat who wants nothing more than to play roarball, and is thrilled when his mum (voice: ) takes him to see his first game with local team the Vineland Thorns. Their star player is Jett Fillmore (voice: Gabrielle Union), a leopard. Like most of the played, she is huge. Much, much bigger than the comparatively tiny Will. The Thorns’ nemesis is Magma, who likewise have their own huge star player, Mane Attraction, who looks like a cross between a lion and horse. Bigs dominate the world of roarball, and keep smalls out of it with the simple motto, “smalls don’t ball.” But Will is the determined sort, not one to take no for an answer.

Other members of the Thorns include: Olivia Burch (voice: Nicola Coughlan), an ostrich depressed by fan comments on social media who deals with the problem by burying her head in the sand.… Read the rest

A girl traps a venomous spider and cares for it as a pet, but as she feeds it, it grows… and grows… and gets out… – onto UK Home Premiere on Monday, July 15th

Helga (Noni Hazlehurst) is hearing strange noises in her Brooklyn apartment. She doesn’t remember so good, however, helpfully pinned to the wall by the phone is her name and address. So when she phones Frank the pest exterminator (Jermaine Fowler), she can read those details to him. It’s probably a rat, he tells her. Soon he is at the door of the block, asking her to buzz him in. But inside the apartment, he realises this particular bug may be more than he bargained for.

Flash back to four days earlier. A hand-sized meteor plunges to Earth to crash through a window into a doll’s house in the same apartment block. It is a tiny pod not unlike the ones in Alien (Ridley Scott, 1979). It opens, hatching a small spider, which looks huge until we realise it’s in a small scale doll’s house, not outside in the apartment proper. The spider is found by Charlotte (Alyla Brown from Furiosa: A Mad Max Story, George Miller, 2024) who empties out her money jar, the one with the screw lid, to make a home for it, feeding it with the roaches that infest the apartment.… Read the rest

A giant, planet-eating entity comes to earth in search of a mysterious key which the Transformers must prevent him from obtaining – out in UK cinemas on Thursday, June 8th

The posters for this latest Transformers instalment promised something a little different: a group of animal robots made up, like the original Transformers, of disparate parts. What was their purpose? Would they transform into vehicles? Well, the answer is, no, they just run around like big robotic animals and never transform into cars or anything else. Why bother?, you might ask. According to the press handouts, they convert from less conspicuous animals, but if that occurred in the film, I must have missed it.

These robotic animals, who include the gorilla Optimal Prime (voice: Ron Perlman), whose name echoes that of series regular Transformer Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen, who has voiced this character through all the movies and the original TV series), the eagle Airazor (voice: Michelle Yeoh) and the cheetah Cheetor (voice: Tongayi Chirisa)…

…belong to a race whose planet is threatened by the villain of the piece, a larger than planet-sized Transformer villain named Unicron (voice: Colman Domingo) – does he transform into anything?… Read the rest
